KidzKare™ Program
Our Elementary School Program
Did you know that your school can earn educational books for its school library and classroom reading programs at the same time your students are helping to save lives?
KidzKare™ is an innovative new program at Community Blood Services that encourages students, parents and teachers to sponsor community blood drives at their elementary and middle schools and earn valuable books for their school. Every lifesaving blood donation collected will result in educational books donated to the school’s reading programs and can be personalized with a special message from the donor. A study has shown that the program is working. Already it has significantly increased donor recruitment rates for adults between the ages of 35 and 54.
Your community blood drive can make a difference to critically ill children like two-year-old Elizabeth Ann and 6-year-old Hayley.
Timmy
Timmy, a student at Sicomac School in Wyckoff, New Jersey, helped run a blood drive at his school as a class project for the pilot KidzKare™ program, earning 26 books for his school’s library. Shown with Timmy are Christian Todd, the academic account manager who coordinates school blood drives and School Librarian Trisha Noble.
Elizabeth Anne, age 2
At 14 months of age I developed a brain tumor that required emergency neurosurgery. Soon afterwards I had to undergo six months of chemotherapy and received many transfusions of blood and platelets to help me heal. Unfortunately, the tumor has returned and I am receiving more chemotherapy and will need blood and platelets. Blood donors are important to the treatment of many blood disorders and cancer. Thank you for helping to sustain my life while undergoing chemotherapy. You can learn more about me by checking out my website at elizabethannenews.com. Blood donations save lives!
